You'll be Taken by the Beauty of The Course and

Challenged by its Traditional Layout

Sunset Hills Country Club is one of the most scenic and challenging golf courses in the greater St. Louis area. Our 170-plus acres of hilly terrain boast grand, mature trees, prairie grasses, fabulous flowers and a colorful and lively butterfly garden. We strive to achieve thick rough, tight fairways and quick greens.

Enjoy your stroll through the natural beauty of Sunset Hills, including stands of mature trees, rolling terrain, a generous sprinkling of bunkers and some water. Each season brings a new and more majestic look to the course, as mature trees continue to add to the unspoiled natural beauty of this pristine, pastoral setting.

Sunset Hills is more than just a name, as you'll soon discover upon seeing sunset after sunset from the club grounds, each one is unique and filled with breathtaking color. This is a course you'll never tire of; one that guarantees the necessary challenge for continued game improvement. Our members are proud of this club and love sharing it with and showing it off to their guests.

Even with the work architect Keith Foster oversaw in 1997 bringing updates to the course, it continues to play like the traditional golf courses of a bygone era. It's a fairly tough course, the finishing two holes offering a challenging conclusion to your round!

Signature holes – we've got two we're quite proud of! Jon's exuberant pride for all 18 holes here is evident. But he's proud of two in particular:

#12 This hole is a challenging 193 yards; a par-3 that takes you over water. It features a fountain, plenty of bunkers and “eats a lot of golf balls!” according to Jon.

#18 Think you can coast to the finish of your round? Think again! The final hole here is 430 uphill yards. Eighteen is an original hole from 1924, one of five original holes left at Sunset Hills.

Share your round with Nature, as we endeavor to be a wildlife sanctuary. Sunset Hills is family-focused, so when we refer to the “wild life” here, it's one word – wildlife! Wildlife you may encounter on the course includes fox, coyote, rabbit, squirrel, deer, quail, wild turkey, eagles and blue heron.

A bluebird housing project was started by a group of interested members in 1999. To date, 15 houses have been placed throughout course. Numerous bird housing projects have been implemented, so you may spot:
  • Blue/Grey Heron

  • King Fisher

  • Osprey

  • Numerous Hawks

Members share the course with wildlife, including deer, fox, coyote, blue heron, wild turkey — even an eagle or two may cross your path during play. This is due in large part to the major effort of our entire golf course crew, working diligently to the completion of our certification in the Audubon Society for golf courses. Sunset Hills Country Club is dedicated to environmental stewardship. Our full goal will be realized within the next few years.
